Positive Change Is Taking Hold at EA

Ask a group of educators to describe their school culture, and you are likely to get a wide range of answers. But when East Allegheny high school staff were recently asked, “What is our school’s story right now, from your perspective?” a common theme quickly emerged.
EA is changing, and staff see that change moving in a positive direction.
The responses repeatedly pointed to growth, stronger relationships, renewed school spirit and a sense that the district is building toward something better. Staff also acknowledged that the work is not finished. For many, that is part of the story.
Here are 10 responses that help tell that story:
- “Embracing change. Moving forward with hope.”
- “Connected, positive, resilient.”
- “Our school's culture is changing for the better. I have seen significant growth with the teacher student relationships. The amount of fights has gone down.”
- “I think we are finally starting to see school spirit and a community setting at EA. The rare and cultural divide has seemed to diminish.”
- “Students are showing up more often, they’re feeling seen and validated, attendance has improved. I believe all of this has to do with seeing how much their teachers and admin care.”
- “We have made a drastic turn around over the last few years and the atmosphere now is great. We have a great staff and even better kids who want and are willing to learn.”
- “I believe that our culture has improved dramatically! I feel that we are forming a community and culture for growth!”
- “Greatly improved. Best relationships between staff and administration. Relationships with families have improved but have been improving.”
- “We are in the middle of a seismic cultural shift to the positive. Students are beginning to hold themselves accountable and are in the process of making EA a truly special place.”
- “It is positive, varied, and reaching towards a brighter future.”
Taken together, the responses tell a story of a district in transition. Staff aren't saying the work is finished. They are saying they can see and feel the difference, from stronger relationships and student engagement to school spirit and a growing sense of community.
Most of all, they see EA continuing to move forward.
